So the ice is off the lakes, the frost is mostly out of the ground, but it is still early April. What’s going on in the greenhouse?
“Well I’m a lettuce plant and I am excited! A few of my hearty friends are beginning to leave. Some of the perennials and the cole crops like cabbage, broccoli, and kale have left the greenhouse, bound for garden centers. Here loving gardeners will welcome them, as early additions to their outside plantings. Oh, to be certain there is still danger out there, as temperatures could still reach killing lows. Yet we adventurous ones are ready. My fellow lettuces are feeling the time is close; that we should venture out. We cold weather plants always flirt with danger, but we usually survive and are the first to give fresh produce to the gardener. I am anxious to see what the next week brings, and I for one will volunteer to venture out and live dangerously.”
