Near-volcanic action in the garden today,
Radiating cracks, splay from center points,
Green waves of cool lava flow.
It surprised me though;
Rain-hardened soil seemed dead,
Life locked beneath the hardened cap.
One day of sun to tap deep into the earth,
A tough but vibrant birth.
Here they come, raging from last year’s strain
Ready to race the sun, north and south again.
Primed to beat the odds,
Flora-gods of immortality.
