With one blizzard under our belt plus a few other ice and snow events, winter is still at bay, with the ground mostly clear of snow again. Today however, there was evidence that the Fat Lady of Fall is about to sing. The tundra swans were flying over in big numbers today, headed southeast towards their wintering grounds in the Carolinas. They are about three weeks late, but I put a lot of stock in their migration being an indicator that fall is over. Their appearance inspired me to get my ice-fishing equipment ready to go. The weather vacillates as usual, but the joyful event of Advent comes to us in its usual progression. Without fail the season comes to pass with the lights, bright colors, and sounds of the eternal hope of peace on earth.
