Old Friends in New Places-June 28, 2015

As we Flyover Country Minnesotans travel the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, we run into many native plant friends.  The Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) and rudbeckia hirta (black-eyed Susan) are in full bloom here in June.

I am amazed at the heartiness and the versatility of these plants, surviving in the near-tundra of northwestern Minnesota and the high mountain meadows of the Appalachians.
