As winter engulfs us we begin to see the “sundogs” on those cold mornings and evenings as the sun nears the horizon. Sundogs are usually associated with cold winter temperatures.
It seems that when the sundogs appear our trusty Labrador retrievers become sleeping dogs. For the most part they are a very hardy breed and our chocolate lab sees to revel in the snow; rolling in the white stuff and enjoying his favorite temperatures that are in the single digits.
Our yellow lab seems to have a different opinion of ‘sundog season.’ He is a bit more tentative about the snow and cold. He is more easily transformed into a ‘sleeping dog.’ The warm rug seems a better place to spend his time than the snow outside. We let sleeping dogs lie, when the sundogs fly.
