The Spice of Life-March 29, 2015

Herb - 3-29

There are many young herbs sprouting up in the greenhouse. To them I asked, “What are your thoughts about spring?”

“I am a basil plant and will try to speak for all of us. I have been elected as the chief spokes-herb  since I received the most votes in the popularity contest. Although I am a plain sweet basil plant, I have numerous first cousins such as spicy globe and tangy Thai basil. My close friend and co-conspirator in many Italian foods, Mr. Oregano is also coming along nicely and has been enjoying the sun and warmth of the greenhouse. We are both putting on good weight, looking forward to traveling out to someone’s herb garden where we will indeed make cooks happy with our fresh-cut goodness. All of our friends are growing now. Sage longs to complement poultry, and the cumin will spice up many fine Mexican dishes. Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme feel a folk song coming on and all of us look forward to giving of ourselves as a culinary and aromatic gardening season begins soon.”
