Big Bluestem Country-September 12, 2015

Big Bluestem grass once covered vast areas of Middle America.  It is the native grass which dominated the tallgrass prairie, reaching head-high and extending to the horizon.  Now it extends to our horizon, after we have taken the big trees from our place.  We can get an idea of the endless vistas the first settlers encountered as they arrived in our little corner of flyover country.

I am researching what the area was like during the 1870’s.  This area is the setting for a book of historical fiction I am working on.  The book takes place in the 1870’s and I can now experience the feeling of being dwarfed by the rolling landscape.
