Sometimes early March sees ice that is over three feet thick. This year we have one and a half to two feet and the forecast for next week is for above normal temperatures. We may be experiencing the late ice that usually occurs at the end of March.
The geese have returned and they are sitting on the ice of area wetlands, staking their claim to nesting areas. There seems to be a housing shortage for geese and they tend to return earlier each year.
There are still people sitting on the ice of area lakes as well, putting a couple more meals of fresh pan fish on the ice.
Whether we will be sitting on top of ice in late March is totally up to the fickle weather for which this month is very famous, here in flyover country.
