On Ground Hog’s Day we were told that the great prognosticator of winter, saw his shadow. Here in Minnesota, we are elated that the groundhog is forecasting the end of winter in just six more weeks. A mid-March end to winter would mean a very short winter for these parts. We shall see about that, and in the meantime we tend to embrace winter as February begins. What’s not to like about the month? The days now become longer and the sun tends to show up for bright, invigorating days. Skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing are all ways to embrace the season. We pity the ground hog wasting six fine weeks in a hole in the ground.
