Shorts and Long Johns on the Line

Spring Dogwoods

Only out here in northern flyover country will one see the weekly wash hanging on the clothesline in alternating indication of the prevailing weather. It’s like a weather forecast in reverse, meteorology in retrospect. On the clotheslines you will see summer shorts alternating with pairs of long-johns. That pretty much sums up our week, when on Wednesday we went from a very frosty morning to a day with a high in the 70s.

Last weekend saw trucks driving on the ice of area lakes and this weekend some of the smaller lakes are free of ice. The dogwoods are at their brightest red, still finding snow to contrast their brilliant hues. You can check for the signs of the season, by noting the migrating waterfowl and the newly-bare fields or just check the neighbor’s clothesline.
